The older passenger car driver from Central Sweden was looking for an exit to Trelleborg when he accidentally ended up in the wrong lane on Yttre Ringvägen in Malmö. According to Malmö District Court, the 91-year-old driver must have realized that he was driving in the wrong direction, but he still continued a “longer distance and at a not insignificant speed” between the Lockarp junction and the Öresund Bridge. Many oncoming cars had to give way before a collision with a Danish motorist took place.
The district court writes in its judgment that the penalty for the 91-year-old’s crime, gross negligence in traffic, is two months’ imprisonment. But considering the convict’s advanced age, “there is no particular reason to assume that he will relapse into crime”. The penalty will therefore be a suspended sentence and a fine of SEK 13,000.
