Frauds in the form of scam calls, text messages and emails have become increasingly common. 2023 was a record year when a whopping 238,000 frauds were reported to the police, which is an increase of 22 percent compared to 2022.
At the same time, it is difficult to get access to the fraudsters and just shy of three percent of the crimes are solved.
The most vulnerable group are elderly people, and the police have therefore issued a warning to them in particular.

This is how the 90-year-old tricked the fraudsters
Earlier this week, a woman in her 90s was victimized by a scammer who called her pretending to work at a postal company, something which Today’s News was the first to report on.
The fraudster was adamant that he wanted the woman’s credit card code and finally the woman gave in. The person then said that a man would come to her house to replace her debit card.
Then the woman began to understand that something was not right and she decided to call 112.
The police had a patrol available and were able to rush to the woman’s address. Once there, they waited for the impostor to appear, which he did.
When the man knocked on the woman’s door, four police officers were waiting on the other side.
– He was quite dejected. He was caught with his hands in the cookie jar. Then he was driven to the police station in Flemingsberg. He is now suspected of attempted gross fraud. The reason why it is classified as serious is that the plaintiff is 90+ and thus extra vulnerable. says a policeman at the Huddinge Police to the newspaper.
The police believe they have now been able to uncover an extensive fraud operation.
