90 GB Leak of Halo Series Revealed

A 90GB data leak from the Halo series has revealed content cut from Bungie’s classic trilogy, developer tools, and more.

Bungie’s legendary halo A massive data leak of 90 GB about the series caused great repercussions in the gaming world. The leak includes many development files, internal documentation, playable beta versions, and never-before-released content from Bungie’s early work in 1998 to the present day. This huge archive also includes data obtained from the Halo Digsite project and sparks new discussions among fans of the series.

What Was Found in the Halo Leak?

On December 25, 2024, 90 GB files called the “Halo Digsite Archive” were shared on the 4chan platform. This leak includes detailed mission designs from Bungie’s original trilogy, environmental design documents, and campaign documents showing changes in the development process. The work done to restore cut content, especially in games such as Halo 2 and Halo 3, attracts attention.

One of the most interesting pieces of the leak is a demo version for Halo: Combat Evolved that was used at E3 in 2000 but was incompatible with Xbox. Additionally, playable beta versions of Halo 1 from its early development stages were also unearthed by fans. These versions show the game before it turned into the first-person shooter (FPS) genre and offer players a nostalgic experience.

This leak creates controversy for the work of not only Bungie, but also 343 Industries, the current rights holder of the series. After Halo Infinite received mixed reactions, 343 Industries studio went through a restructuring at the beginning of this year and decided to switch to Unreal Engine 5. This leak has increased fans’ interest in both Bungie’s past successes and 343 Industries’ future projects.
