In 2022 there was in the MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online some changes and as story the year-round adventure “Breton Legacy”. But what is still missing in ESO? MeinMMO author MiezeMelli has dealt with the question and put together some ideas.
In contrast to previous years, no new feature has come into play in 2022. For this, the companion system, which appeared a year earlier, was supplemented by 2 more characters.
What are the companions in ESO? The companions are NPCs (non-player characters) that you can unlock through a quest and then summon as allies in battle. If you want to learn more about it, check out our guide:
The Elder Scrolls Online: This is how you can unlock the new companions
A tavern game has also made it into the MMORPG with the High Isle chapter. A card game is hidden under the name “Fame Stories”.
Nevertheless, there was no real feature this year, which many players regretted.
1. We really, really need more inventory space
If you play ESO, sooner or later you will reach the point where you have filled your 200 or 400 (with ESO+ membership) bank slots well. With Homestead the housing was added and with it came a total of 4 storage chests with 60 slots each and 3 storage cassettes with 30 slots each.
Overall, that sounds like a lot of storage space. However, Zenimax adds a lot of new items to the game with each chapter or DLC. Including a lot of housing items and new equipment sets. Sooner or later this means that this amount of storage space is simply used up.
Especially if you run housing in ESO, you know this problem. It’s not uncommon for ESO veterans to use entire houses or additional characters’ inventory space for storage. In the Bethesda streams, too, it is already a frequently asked question, on the one hand, when more housing spaces will be added and, on the other hand, whether there will be an extra inventory for housing items at some point.
The idea of bringing an additional housing inventory, which is similar to the craft bag, has already been expressed many times. The Crafting Bag comes with ESO+ membership and can hold an infinite number of crafting materials.
As an ESO player who is enthusiastic about housing, I know the storage problem only too well. My entire storage chests and cassettes are crammed with housing items and even a huge home with a total of 700 slots is only for storing housing items.
For a corresponding additional storage space, ESO players would often invest real money or crowns. Personally, I can absolutely agree with that.
These 8 housing items in ESO are stylish and also really practical
2. More ways to interact with the guild
Unfortunately, the guild system in ESO has changed little or not at all since the release:
And that was it in the end with the interaction possibilities. Therefore, most guilds also organize themselves through external programs (mostly Discord) to undertake guild activities.
Especially for an MMORPG, communication with other players is essential. Therefore, ESO should consider playing together more through additional interaction options within a guild.
3. Interesting rewards for achieving high CP
With the update, the champion point system in ESO has been completely overhauled and changed. The developers were concerned with reducing the sum of passive improvements and percentage improvements in combat stats.
Such values have to be constantly calculated for every action in combat and can therefore make greater demands on performance. Since ESO has been struggling with server performance for quite some time, this was a stabilization measure.
At the same time, the experience required to increase champion points has been greatly reduced. While this was initially convenient for all types of players, there is now a huge downside:
After reaching a total of 1800 champion points, the character will no longer become stronger. The reason for this is the active champion points. You can select a maximum of 4 active champion points from each champion tree.
In addition, the number of passive champion points is limited, so that at 1800 CP you have skilled all possible passive CP. However, you can still reach a CP level of up to 3600 CP.
But it’s no longer of any use. And that’s frustrating. Therefore, the developers should definitely come up with something for the high CP levels. After all, there are also a large part of the loyal and long-standing players.
4. A good balance between beginner-friendly and consistent
In the last few patches, the developers have focused on attracting new players. Unfortunately, the long-time players were forgotten a few times. In some cases, even extensive gaming has been made less interesting.
This has caused quite a bit of uneasiness in the veteran community, especially in the last 4 patches, and also triggered a wave in which many long-time players quit the MMORPG.
Of course, as a game developer you have to recruit new players. However, it is also important to keep the regular players interesting by also making the more advanced content interesting. After all, what good are new players if they don’t stay?
5. The old areas could use a little fresh air
While the new areas (especially shortly after the release) are overrun by players, the old areas are almost extinct. Many players would like to see the old areas reworked as well, so that they become interesting again and there is an incentive to travel to the old areas.
The same applies to the dungeons from the base game, the older DLC dungeons and the older trials. Because when the content was released, there were completely different requirements for the players.
In addition, the maximum possible DPS in the MMORPG has constantly increased, so that bosses from old content can be burst away so easily for experienced players that it is no longer necessary to pay attention to the mechanics of the fight.
Since the maximum possible DPS has invariably increased with almost every patch, older content in ESO is no longer an incentive for experienced players.
With each chapter, a new trial comes into play. However, this only happens once a year. For the players who actively raid, this means a new “waiting time” every year until the new chapter is published.
The old areas could be revived by taking players back to the old areas in the quest lines of the new chapters. Another idea is new world bosses that are adapted to the current DPS.
The graphics have also been visibly improved with the Greymoor Chapter. However, the old areas were left empty-handed when it came to the visual beautification. At this point there would also be an opportunity to make the old areas interesting again.
6. Stable servers, better performance and bug fixes
The well-known problem of server performance has become a very frustrating circumstance, especially for long-time players. This problem is particularly noticeable in tests and in PvP.
In Cyrodiil (the large PvP area of ESO), the performance problems are so pronounced that many players find this content partially unplayable. In fact, I regret to have to confirm this observation from my own experience.
Especially when many players meet in the PvP area, skills are often delayed or, in the worst case, not released at all. Of course, this reduces the positive gaming experience.
7. Content designed for 2 players
ESO has a choice of solo content, 4-player content (dungeons and 2 arenas), and 12-player content (trials). But how about content for 2 players?
I’ve often had the experience myself that even the 4-player content sometimes fails due to organization or you end up in endless queues. And how often do you just hang out with a friend on Discord, wandering around somewhere in Tamriel?
I can also remember that when I first started in ESO, I was relatively shy and didn’t dare to go directly into a language channel with many people. I think some players and especially ESO beginners feel the same way.
Content for 2 players would be perfect for that. Since there is no such thing in ESO so far, it would also bring a breath of fresh air to the MMORPG.
8. Please no more upheaval of the combat system
Since update 32 Deadlands. This may not matter to new ESO players, but these changes have met with resistance, especially among long-time players.
After all, for many players, the combat system is THE reason why they chose ESO as their MMORPG. Fundamentally screwing up the combat system 8 years after the release is not entirely understandable for many.
ESO Update 35 in particular has drawn a lot of criticism.
9. There hasn’t been a new class since Elsweyr
Arguably one of the most frequently asked questions on the Bethesda ESO stream is “When is a new class coming?” Besides the 4 classes included in the base game, there are 2 more classes that were added later.
The Keeper found its way to Tamriel in 2017 with the Morrowind Chapter. 2 years later the necromancer was added with the chapter Elsweyr. Since then there hasn’t been a new class.
