9 Marvel Characters The MCU Just Forgot

As soon as a new movie or series from the Marvel Cinematic Universe is announced, speculation begins as to which characters could return in the upcoming adventure. After almost 15 years, some big names from the comics arrived in the mega-franchise.

Almost every new MCU project has at least one exciting return, whether it’s Matt Murdock in She-Hulk: The Lawyer or Jane Foster in Thor 4: Love and Thunder. Thanks to the multiverse characters from completely different Marvel eras have recently returned, above all the ex-Spideys in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

However, there are numerous characters who fallen into oblivion are. Even well-known actors could not save her from this fate. Dropped storylines, fates touched upon, and talents given away: we’ve collected nine MCU characters we’re waiting in vain for their return.

Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer in Iron Man 2

In Iron Man 2, Justin Hammer acted as the abysmal reflection of Tony Stark. Every decision that the superhero had to make as head of a weapons company was distorted into the negative by Sam Rockwell, who played with relish. However, after a brief update in All Hail the King, the character has disappeared.

Donald Glover as Aaron Davis in Spider-Man: Homecoming

Rockwell isn’t the only great actor to get lost in the MCU. Even Donald Glover was simply forgotten. In Spider-Man: No Way Home he appears as Aaron Davis. This is an important character in the comics: Davis is Miles Morales’ uncle and turns into the villain Prowler.

Michael Mando as Mac Gargan in Spider-Man: Homecoming

Speaking of Spider-Man: Homecoming, another character who could have morphed into an MCU villain one day is Mac Gargan. For a moment, everything indicated that Michael Mando would strike terror as Scorpio in the next Spidey movie. To this day he has not appeared.

Michelle Yeoh as Aleta Ogord in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

One of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’s post-credits scenes revealed one of the coolest MCU castings ever: Michelle Yeoh as space warrior Aleta Ogord. Ultimately, the franchise never returned to the scene and cast Yeoh in a new role in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Forgotten MCU Character: Betty Ross

Liv Tyler as Betty Ross in The Incredible Hulk

Betty Ross, played by Liv Tyler, was introduced in The Incredible Hulk and has never set foot in the MCU since. One of the obvious reasons may have been the reorientation of the Hulk character. But if even Tim Roth returns as a subscription, there should be room for Tyler in the MCU again.

Forgotten MCU Character: Samuel Sterns

Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Stern in The Incredible Hulk

Besides Betty Ross, there is another character from The Incredible Hulk who was denied a major MCU story. The biologist Samuel Sterns could have had further appearances. Last but not least, by the end of the film, Tim Blake Nelson’s face is pulsing so much that the villain, The Leader, almost jumps right out of him.

Forgotten Marvel Character: Ava Starr

Hannah John-Karmen as Ava Starr in Ant-Man and the Wasp

Ava Starr wreaked havoc as the villain Ghost in Ant-Man and the Wasp. By the end of the film, she found her balance and recommended herself as the Ant-Man version of Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier. A moment that went nowhere. There is still hope: According to rumors, Hannah John-Kamen could play in Thunderbolts.

Forgotten Figure: Harley Keener

Ty Simpkins as Harley Keener in Iron Man 3

In Iron Man 3, Tony Stark runs into the boy Harley Keener, who later attends his funeral in Avengers 4: Endgame, both times played by Ty Simpkins. Aside from that, he wasn’t relevant to the MCU, although he could have been ideally positioned as an Iron Man successor.

Forgotten MCU Character: Phil Coulson

Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson in Marvel’s The Avengers

Okay, theoretically we’ve seen a lot from Phil Colson. After all, Clark Gregg’s SHIELD agent received a whole series with seven (!) seasons after his supposed death in the first Avengers film. But the big MCU never really took an interest in him again and banished him to the Agents of SHIELD corner. His colleague Maria Hill drew the much better lot.
