A tank is much better than everyone else in World of Warcraft. Almost 9 out of 10 pro tanks play the same class – that’s a problem.
If you want to be successful in high-level dungeons in World of Warcraft, you have to learn a lot – and ideally you also have to play the correct class. Currently, one class in particular dominates the tanks in the dungeons of level 15 and above. Other tanks are virtually out of the question and are on the verge of oblivion. It’s time for Blizzard to change something.

Which tank is so successful? The currently most successful tank in the “Mythic+” area is the Protection Paladin. If you look at the current season and filter for the highest possible dungeons on the raider.io site – i.e. Mythic+15 and upwards – then the Paladin’s dominance becomes clear:
Healers and DPS specializations have similar problems. Discipline priests dominate everything, especially in the high-level M+, and reinforcement shamans, reinforcement callers and frost death knights are particularly in demand in the DPS.
What impact does that have? The fact that individual classes are viewed as the optimum in Mythic+ is fundamentally nothing new. But it is rarely the case that it is as extremely one-sided as it is currently. This then leads to the community becoming convinced that only these classes and specializations can be successful – and others are then spurned.
In a recent interview, Ion Hazzikostas made it clear that the community’s perception often differs from the actual data (via PCGamer). This means that all classes would currently be in a good position to overcome the challenges of Mythisch+ – regardless of whether they belong to the “mega combo” or not.
However, the perception of the community can drastically shape the gaming experience. Because if the players see that the most successful groups always use the same classes and specializations, then this view also seeps into the collective understanding of the game across the entire community.
This in turn means that you may not even be invited into dungeons if you don’t belong to the appropriate class or specialization.
What is Blizzard up to? In the second season of The War Within, dungeons should become a little easier again. Because “Mythisch+” has never been as hard as it is now. The revisions to The War Within in particular have robbed many players of the fun – in addition to the quite complex dungeons with numerous mechanics, where the smallest mistakes can often mean the end.
The next versions of the PTR for Patch 11.1 Lorenhalt should already contain some of these changes. And then it remains to be seen whether Mythisch+ will gain some popularity again with the start of Patch 11.1 – or whether even more people will end up in the depths or raids.
