86 years old and 28 films this cinema legend who

At 86 years old, this director continues to be extremely active. A true legend of cinema, he is soon to release his new film.

The older generation of filmmakers is far from having said its last word. While Clint Eastwood (94 years old) is wrapping up his last feature film and Francis Ford Coppola (85 years old) presented his last production at the Cannes Film Festival, another octogenarian director will release his last film in the coming months. And it is one of the most anticipated of the year.

It must be said that, although he will be celebrating his 87th birthday next November, this British filmmaker has never slowed down and continues to regularly release new feature films. With 28 films already made (not counting those for which he wears the producer’s hat), he has established himself as a major filmmaker whose latest productions are particularly scrutinized. Some have become immense classics of the seventh art since his debut, even if he has never won an Oscar to recognize his talents as a filmmaker. This director is Ridley Scott.

Even if you’re not a big movie buff, the name Ridley Scott should ring a bell. The British director and producer has directed some of the greatest science fiction films of the last few decades, including Alien, the eighth passenger in 1979 (Oscars for best visual effects) or Blade Runner in 1982. He also tried his hand at peplum with Gladiator in 2000 (5 Oscars including Best Picture), for the historical film with Kingdom of heaven Or The Last Duelor even the dramatic comedy with Thelma and Louise in 1991 (Oscar for best original screenplay the following year).

At 86 years old, Ridley Scott continues to release many films. While his latest remains his epic Napoleon which received very mixed reviews upon its release in 2023, his next feature film is coming out very soon. It is the sequel to Gladiatorwhose plot takes place 20 years later and follows the evolution of Maximus and Lucilla’s son, played by Paul Mescal (Normal People). Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen, Joseph Quinn and Pedro Pascal complete the cast. Its release is scheduled for November 13 in France, and already promises to attract curious people to theaters.
