The survey aims to inform the police how residents in their respective areas experience their living environment. Those who will receive the letter are randomly selected and on their website the police emphasize the value of those selected responding.

Throughout the 2000s, the police in southern Sweden have sent out this type of survey annually. The security survey aims to allow residents to “influence the security creation and crime prevention work of the police and the municipality”, the police write in the press release “Police region South and municipalities send out a survey”.

“We want to know, for example, how citizens experience any problems where they live, if they have been exposed to crime or not in the past year, if they are worried about being exposed to crime and also if they feel safe in their residential area,” writes Mats Trulssoncrime prevention coordinator and responsible for the implementation of the security investigations, in the press release.
