It is estimated that the rebuilding process will cost billions of dollars after the damage caused by the fires that continued in the Maui administrative region, which consists of more than one island in the US state of Hawaii, and which killed 80 people.

According to damage assessment data from the Pacific Disaster Center and Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the estimated cost for rebuilding in the Hawaiian town of Lahaina on Maui is estimated to be $5.52 billion.
More than 2,200 structures were damaged or destroyed in historic Lahaina, where most of the destruction caused by the flames was experienced. While 86 percent of the buildings exposed to the fire were residences, many buildings and areas such as workplaces, schools, agricultural lands and government institutions were also seriously damaged.
THE NUMBER OF DEAD IS EXPECTED TO INCREASED
While 544 buildings were damaged in the town of Kula, which was affected by the fires on the island of Maui, the estimated cost for the reconstruction of this area is expected to be 434 million dollars.
80 people died in the fires that continued on the Big Island and Maui Island in the US state of Hawaii. The death toll is feared to rise as hundreds of people are missing due to the fires.
The wildfires in Hawaii have been recorded as the “deadliest natural disaster” in the state’s history to date.
DISASTER AREA ANNOUNCED
US President Joe Biden declared Maui a “disaster zone” because of the fire. Biden stated that those affected by the fires will be compensated for their losses.
Hawaii Governor Josh Green said in a statement on August 10 that the loss of life would increase “significantly” after the investigation of burning buildings after the first determinations. (AA)
