8 out of 13 series canceled and thats the sad

Over the past two decades, The CW has become the most popular youth channel. He brought us the Arrowverse, teen hits like Riverdale and One Tree Hill, and plenty of genre fare featuring Supernatural and the Vampire Diaries universe. This era is now over.

The CW is one of the five major US networks that present their new series for the coming season every May. One Overview of canceled and renewed The CW series for the TV season 2023/2024 we have put them together here.

No Arrowverse, No Riverdale: All the Series Renewed by The CW

Already last year it became apparent that The CW was massively reducing its programming (you can find out more about the reasons below in the article). That though only two own productions survive the restructuring of the channel is still surprising.

Both the youth series All American and the series reboot of the classic Walker, Texas Ranger led by Supernatural star Jared Padalecki have been extended. His colleague Jensen Ackles’ new Supernautral series was less fortunate, however.

Riverdale, The Flash & More: These shows have been canceled or ended

The fate of 3 series is still unclear:

Arrowverse fans are in for a bitter farewell. The DC series universe began in 2012 with the Arrow series and spawned five other interrelated series over the years: The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning and Batwoman. This era is now officially over. The final Arrowverse series, The Flash, officially ends on May 24th.

The CW discontinues almost all series: The end of the once most popular youth channel explained

It’s easy to explain why The CW is scrapping so many series: In October 2022, a large part of the station was taken over by the Nexstar Media Group. This was followed by numerous layoffs and a change in management. In order to make the station profitable in the long term, The CW’s programming will henceforth be one radical reorientation subjected.

The station’s program will be no longer aimed at a young target group, but mainly tailored to an adult audience. The whole thing is associated with strong cost savings. That means: There are fewer expensive self-produced series, but more licensed series (e.g. from Canada) and reality shows.

As reported by the Hollywood Reporter, Series seasons in the future no more than 13 episodes include. The austerity course runs through all levels of the program. Luckily, some long-lived series (The Flash, Nancy Drew, and Riverdale) were prepared for their demise in time to avoid being caught off guard by the sudden cancellation.
