8 important scenes in One Piece Season 2 that Netflix definitely needs to get right

Season 1 of the live-action adaptation of One Piece was so successful that Netflix has given the green light for a sequel. This is how the great adventure of Luffy and his friends begins on the Grandline. MeinMMO author Jasmin hopes that certain scenes will not be neglected. The author presents 8 scenes in more detail.

Spoiler alert: The text contains spoilers until the end of the Alabasta arc.

In my free time I secretly dream of becoming a Straw Hat Pirate. I’ve been following One Piece since the beginning and am always up to date with the manga. The anime and the Netflix series quickly captivated me.

I can’t wait for the creator Oda to continue the story. As a fan, I sincerely hope that Season 2 of One Piece on Netflix doesn’t ruin some of the most important moments.

There were many sad moments in the first season of One Piece, especially the Straw Hat Pirates’ childhood was anything but rosy. But Luffy’s crew will also experience many emotionally charged moments in the present.

I’ll introduce you to 8 scenes that Netflix definitely needs to get right for season 2.

A large whale causes great drama

The first tragic story occurs when you enter the Grand Line. The Straw Hat Gang lands over Reverse Mountain at the giant whale La Boum. The marine mammal is covered in scars from ramming its head into Reverse Mountain.

In this way, the whale tries to destroy the mountain in order to get to his friends. As a baby he was separated from his herd and then raised by pirates. The pirates promised to come back one day, but to this day there is no sign of them. One Piece connoisseurs know why the pirates never came back.

Luffy then challenges the whale to a fight, which the two end in a draw. Luffy promises to return one day to have a rematch. La Boum understands the gesture and is visibly moved to tears.

I’m curious to see how Netflix plans to implement this emotional scene. If the whale is modeled on a real specimen with CGI effects, I find it difficult to imagine portraying such a huge creature with tears of joy that I too would shed tears.

New member for the straw hat gang

The next waterfall of tears could come with the entry of the next Straw Hat member. On Drum Island, Luffy and his friends meet Chopper the reindeer. Like the other members, he also has a sad story behind him.

Chopper ate a devil fruit that turned him into a humanoid creature. But as a hybrid, he found neither friends among reindeer nor among humans. The only friend who stuck by him was Doc Bader, from whom he acquired medical knowledge.

But Doc Bader died in an explosion and Chopper grew up with Dr. Kuleha up. But he never forgot his mentor’s dream: He wanted to bring the cherry blossoms back to Drum Island.

As Luffy and his crew try to sail away, Dr. Kuleha and some residents blow pink paint into the air, which looks like a giant cherry blossom tree thanks to the shape of the island. Chopper has snot and water on his face and that’s what happened to me too.

Again, the question is how Chopper is portrayed in the Netflix series. It will be difficult to portray a reindeer-human hybrid in a way that doesn’t take us out of the immersion. Hopefully Netflix manages to find an actor as great as the other Straw Hats to convey Chopper’s emotions perfectly.

Give the Alabasta arc its own season

I sincerely hope that the Alabasta arc doesn’t appear in season 2 anymore or at least gets enough episodes to tell the story sufficiently. The desert land has so many individual fates and exciting battles to offer that it would be a shame if the whole story were only told in two episodes.

There are the following 6 important scenes in the Alabasta arc that shouldn’t be neglected:

  • The civil war between the kingdom and the rebellion.
  • Luffy meets Ace for the first time.
  • The Straw Hats have to prove themselves individually in fights.
  • Sir Crocodile becomes the first stronger opponent that Luffy has to fight against.
  • Vivi’s farewell to the Straw Hats.
  • Nico Robin joins the gang.
  • Many One Piece fans will be familiar with the scenein which the Straw Hats raise their fist in the air and the blue cross on their wrist becomes visible. Since they don’t want their friend Vivi to be brought before the Navy in connection with pirates, they express their solidarity in this tacit way.

What really stuck with me in the arc was how often Princess Vivi cried. Be it because of her desperation, a fight with Luffy, or the death of a beloved friend, the Alabasta arc has a lot of emotional situations.
