To entertain the whole family during Christmas dinner and let your stomach digest a little, here are some game ideas to suggest.
At Christmas, we generally spend a long time sitting at the table to eat. Between the aperitif and the dessert, several hours can even pass. A wait that can be very long for children, but also for adults. So in order not to get bored and at the same time avoid annoying subjects, why not start a game. Of course, we are not talking about playing Monopoly, but about small quick and easy games to organize as a family on the theme of the holidays. Here are our game ideas for an aperitif, a meal, and even before opening Christmas presents.
1 – The Christmas sock game
The aim of the game ? Guess what’s inside the Christmas sock. Beforehand, you will have filled it with around ten objects and treats such as a Christmas bauble, a candy cane, a chocolate Santa, etc. Obviously, you must close the sock using an elastic band before starting the game, and your guests will have to guess the objects hidden there by feeling or shaking it. One point per item found.
2 – Santa’s telephone game
Your mission : deliver a message from Santa to Mrs. Claus whispering it in each other’s ears one after the other. The last person to hear it has to repeat it out loud and in general, it no longer really resembles its initial version, which is sure to make the whole table laugh. Example : “My dear, can you knit me a new hat, I forgot it in a chimney and I’m starting to get a cold. By the way, I’ll bring you some good cookies and lots of pacifiers!”
3 – The game of forbidden words
A Christmas dinner not to mention Christmas and its lexical field (gifts, Santa Claus, tree, party, decorations, etc.) seems impossible to you? Let’s see who does best during dinner. Necessarily, you won’t have to wait too long before a forbidden word is spoken. 1 mistake made = 1 euro to be placed in a small box. To avoid ending up broke at the end of the day, you can also reallocate the money.
4 – Post-it game: which Christmas character am I?
The Christmas version of the post-it game should offer the whole family a good-natured break between the turkey and the log for example. The principle ? Each player has a post-it stuck to their forehead on which is written a character reminiscent of Christmas (Rudolph, Santa Claus, an elf, the Grinch, Father Fouettard…) and must guess which one it is by asking questions.
5 – The wild Christmas dance
When darkness begins to settle in your house, use your light garlandsturn off your lights and transform your living room into a giant dance floor. You can stay on the theme of Christmas songs by launching a dedicated playlist or letting your loved ones groove to their favorite music between two courses.
6 – Christmas Pictionary
Same principle as Pictionary classic except that we axis it Christmas themed by writing down words such as log, gift, Santa Claus, fir tree, hood, etc. on pieces of paper. Form two teams, a player from each team draws a piece of paper and draws what is written on it to try to make their team guess it in less than a minute. If no one finds it, the other team can respond and take over.
7 – The numbers game to open gifts
Stick a number on each gift, and in a hat, put the same numbers written on small pieces of paper. The first person draws a number from the hat, and goes to get the corresponding gift. Then, the person giving this gift stands up and must guess, with as few clues as possible, who the gift is intended for. Once the person recognizes themselves, they can open their gift, and it’s up to them to draw a number from the hat! You will have to be patient and bring out the old files on each of the guests to make each person guess through a notable event or a funny memory!
8 – Kitchen gloves
In the same spirit as the previous one, each participant has his gifts placed in front of him, and each in turn, they throw a die. Whoever lands on 6 has the right to unwrap their gift, but first they must put on the big oven mitts! While waiting for him to open his gift, all the other players continue to roll the die, and the one who lands on 6 takes the turn to open his gifts. The one who was struggling with his family must stop and hand over the gloves. And it continues like this until everyone has finished opening all their presents! To make the task even more difficult, some also add a scarf over their eyes!
