At the end of February, the temporary shelter for Ukrainian refugees in the Jaarbeurs was closed, which was intended as the first shelter where Ukrainians could catch their breath after their trip to the Netherlands. The shelter was too full and the refugees could not move on to a longer-term place. That is why the shelter was closed.
A spokesperson for the municipality says that no Ukrainians are still being accommodated. “We still receive vulnerable Ukrainians who need extra care.” In addition, there is now room for refugees from Ter Apel. “The COA appealed to us and we responded because we want these people to have somewhere to sleep.”
These refugees do not stay in the Jaarbeurs for just one night, like the Ukrainian refugees, but for a longer period of four weeks. The refugees stay in the same hall, but two rooms are separated from each other.
