The severe drought in Europe has caused many watercourses to drop sharply. But one effect of the water level being reduced is that historical objects that were hidden at the bottom have now suddenly become visible.
In the Spanish province of Cáceres, archaeologists are celebrating after the water in a lake dropped so much that a Spanish “stonehenge” peeked out. The circle of megalithic stones is believed to have been built 5,000 years before Christ and has only been visible a few times before.
In Italy, a World War II bomb was found when the Po River dried up, and in eastern Serbia, several sick German warships loaded with explosives were found.
