In December 2024, it was determined that public transport in Blekingen will be free for anyone who has reached the age of 70. Soon the decision is enforced and the region’s seniors can ride local traffic without paying a single penny, writes the South East.

2,700 pensioners are allowed to ride free public transport
However, it was two years ago that a local resident in Olofström submitted a proposal for free public transport for 70-plus. And after a prolonged process of discussions between politicians and public transport, it was recently decided to make the proposal that will affect 2,700 people.
– Everything is prepared with Blekingetrafiken, when the cards are printed and sent, the invoices come to the municipality, says Olofström’s commander -in -chief, Iréne Robertssonto the newspaper.

Then the 70-plus ride free bus
If you are one of the thousands of resident 70-plus in Blekingen, you can look forward to a senior ticket soon dipping into the mailbox. It is the certificate that entitles you to travel free of charge in public transport. The only thing you need to keep in mind is to have it with you when using the bus.
According to the municipal manager, however, it will take a while before everyone gets their senior tickets home.
– Sometime in March April longer than that, I don’t think it takes, she concludes to the South East.
However, Olofström is not the first municipality in the Blekingen region to make it free for older people to transport. Blekinge traffic has a concept in several municipalities in the county.
