Sitcoms don’t just have to be about dull city dwellers who spend far too much time in coffee shows. This was proven between 1996 and 2003 by the charming comedy series Sabrina – totally enchanted! with a mix of fantasy and humor. Now you can stream the classic in its entirety on Paramount+.

Sabrina Spellman (Melissa Joan Hart) moves to Riverdale to live with her aunts shortly before her 16th birthday and discovers something amazing there: She is a witch, as are her aunts Hilda and Zelda and her father. At first she has difficulty with her magical abilities, but she soon realizes how useful it can be to occasionally help with magic.
Sabrina belongs to the Archie Comics universe, which has been about the teenager Archibald Andrews in Riverdale since 1942. 20 years later, teen witch Sabrina was added, who later had her own comic series.

Comedy legend Nell Scovell created the Sabrina sitcom in 1996 starring Melissa Joan Hart. Caroline Rhea and Beth Broderick played their aunts Hilda and Zelda, while Nick Bakay provided the voice of the sarcastic cat Salem Saberhagen in the original (Frank Engelhardt in German). Sabrina stood out, especially in the first few years, for its fantastic cast, lively dialogue, pop culture references and a general lightheartedness. This brought the series to seven seasons, three television films and an animated spin-off series.

Starting in 2017, Riverdale brought Archie’s world closer to a new generation and in a much darker guise. A year later, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina launched on Netflix, which also gave the teen witch a makeover. Kiernan Shipka played Sabrina for four seasons, which replaced the original’s sitcom format with that of a dark fantasy-horror-drama.
