A new survey conducted by Treatwell reveals the consumption habits of French people regarding cosmetics.

Natural and responsible cosmetics have been on the rise in recent years and especially since the start of the health crisis. And for good reason, a recent survey conducted by the online beauty treatment booking platform Treatwellreveals that 69% of people surveyed often buy so-called eco-friendly beauty or hair products.

Only 16% firmly believe that “green beauty” means responsible and sustainable cosmetics. However, the green beauty means natural cosmetics and not necessarily responsible. The clean beauty is the term for natural, vegan, organic and responsible beauty products. An amalgam on which cosmetic brands play. This is called the greenwashinga marketing device aimed at making people believe that a brand is ecological without really being so.

    Consumers looking at the composition

With the democratization of applications scanning product compositions, the French have taken the reflex to pay some attention to the ingredients they apply to their skin. The survey reveals that 5 out of 10 French people review the list of ingredients that make up their cosmetics. Second, consumers look at the organic nature of the product. Finally, they are interested in the naturalness of it.

Also according to the survey, 42% of people believe that a so-called natural hair or beauty product is immediately healthy. On the other hand, only 15% of them affirm that the term “vegan” on a product is associated with “natural”. Important terms for 68% of consumers who, according to a study carried out in March 2022 by Blissim, recognize that they are more tempted to buy a product bearing one of the labels green.
