A 7.7 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Loyalty Islands of New Caledonia, France, in the South Pacific, according to a statement from the US Geological Institute.
CALL TO STAY AWAY FROM THE BEACHES
After the earthquake that occurred 38 km below the ground, a tsunami warning was issued. While the earthquake caused panic in some places, the authorities in the region called on the people to stay away from the beaches.
“WAVES OF A FEW METER CAN BE SEEN”
The US tsunami warning system noted that waves of several meters could be seen on the Pacific islands. Australia and New Zealand also announced that they expect unusual waves in their coastal areas.
