More than 20 people are sentenced by an Uzbek court to prison after 68 children died after taking cough medicine, the BBC reports.

In Uzbekistan, at least 86 children were poisoned between 2022 and 2023.

The length of the sentence varies between two to 20 years. According to the court, the man sentenced to the longest sentence had been guilty of corruption, tax fraud and forgery.

The cough medicine was manufactured in India. The country has previously revoked the production license for the manufacturer behind the medicine.
