65 inch 4K TV with Ambilight 120 Hz and Dolby

Yesterday we drew your attention to a great offer for a 65-inch Samsung OLED television, where MediaMarkt is simply giving away a Nintendo Switch OLED. But if harmonious lighting for your home cinema is important to you, you should take a closer look at the Philips OLED 837. MediaMarkt is currently selling it for only 1699 euros and with it 43 percent below the recommended retail price (RRP).

Great picture and 4-sided Ambilight for the perfect mood lighting

As known from televisions with OLED displays, the Philips OLED 837 also has a high-contrast picture with the deepest black and strong, brilliant colors. Above all, it can score with the brightness, which is significantly higher than that of older OLED TVs and is only surpassed by its own top models and the competition from LG and Panasonic.

Above all, Philips televisions are known for a special feature that no other manufacturer offers: Philips Ambilight lets your living room shine in the colors of the film or series with 4 LED lights, one on each side of the TV. The smart LED strips synchronize with the screen colors, suggesting an expanded image that extends into the room.

If you don’t have a Philips television, but still want to experience the fascinating effect of Ambilight, you can also retrofit the technology. You need them for that Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box*, which synchronizes Philips Smart Lights with your TV. You need it for that Hue Play Lightstrip*, which you attach to the back of your TV. Disadvantage of this method: The sync box receives the data directly via HDMI, the TV program from the TV connection and the apps integrated in the TV unfortunately do not work.

Lavish equipment that leaves nothing to be desired

The Philips 55OLED837 offers almost all the important premium features you would expect from a high-end TV. And at a comparatively low price. Both Dolby Vision and HDR10+ HDR formats are supported. For example, you can experience content on Netflix and Amazon, but also some Blu-rays in the best picture quality. Functions that are of interest to gamers are the HDMI 2.1 connections, the 120 Hz panel and features such as VRR and ALLM, which ensure the shortest possible delays and stable image display.

Lots of Smart TV and an expandable service

The only point of criticism worth mentioning is the nested menus, which sometimes don’t make the Philips TV as easy to use as some of its competitors. Android TV is the perfect basis for all sorts of smart TV functions. The TV listens to the Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa and offers a huge selection of apps that can be downloaded from the Google Play Store.

Incidentally, the Philips OLED 837 described here is identical in construction to the OLED model 807, apart from the remote control, which should simplify the price comparison and the search for the right device.
