60 people killed in bloody clashes in Colombia | News in brief

In South America, in the northern part of Colombia, 60 people have died in violence between armed groups in recent days.

Colombian authorities said on Saturday local time that the rebel group ELN has clashed with another left-wing guerrilla movement and also with a paramilitary criminal organization.

Disputes between the groups near the Venezuelan border have continued for years and are related to the cocaine trade.

With thousands of members, the ELN is one of the largest armed groups in Colombia.
