Dairy products, and more particularly yogurts, are recommended as part of a balanced diet. But not all! This is the type of yogurt that is best avoided, based on the recommendations of 60 million consumers.
For a snack, are you used to eating fruit yogurt, thinking that it provides you with calcium but also a portion of fruit? Think again! If the yogurt will contain a little calcium, it will mainly consist of sugar, as revealed 60 million consumers in a survey dating from May 2024.
A healthy image, but a less healthy composition
In fact, the consumer association lifts the veil on fruit yogurts, which present an image of a healthy and good-for-you product. In reality, they contain a lot of sugar (the equivalent of three to four squares of sugar per jar!), sometimes also additives, thickeners, artificial colors and flavors.
As for the quantity of fruit, it often represents less than 10% of the finished product. And these fruits are usually pieces made into puree or diluted in sweet syrups.
Yogurts labeled “low-fat”, but rich in sweeteners and additives
If you think that buying low-fat yogurt would get you a better product, that’s not the case. According to 60 million consumersthese products contain sweeteners or additives (some of which are accused of increasing the risk of cancer), present to compensate for the lack of fat. These yogurts are therefore no more recommended than the first ones.
What is the ideal yogurt?
Ultimately the best yogurt is the simplest product, that is to say classic natural yogurt, made with whole milk. It will not contain additives or colorings and its sugar content will be limited. On this last point, it is better to avoid yogurts containing more than 5 grams per 100 grams of product.
And if you find that its taste is too bland, you can add pieces of fruit or a teaspoon of honey, it will be much better for your health!
