A missing 6-year-old girl from Gaza was found dead over the weekend. The sounds of fighting could be heard in the background of his emergency call.
6 year old Hind Rajab called the emergency center on January 29. He had been trapped in a car in Gaza with his relatives. The Israeli armed forces fired all around.
The Palestinian Red Crescent as well as the girl’s mother and grandfather have told the news agency AFP and Reuters about the girl’s fate. The Red Crescent is responsible for the operation of the emergency number in Gaza.
Hind Rajab and the Red Crescent emergency center officer spoke for a total of three hours. During that time, the clerk tried to comfort the girl. A short clip of the call is heard in the video.
– Come and get me. Are you coming to pick me up? the girl says.
– Do you want me to pick you up? the clerk answers.
– I am so scared. Come on. Someone call to pick me up.
– Ok, honey, I’ll come get you.
According to the Red Crescent, the girl repeated her request for help many times. Gunfire and the sounds of battles could be heard in the background.
Searches could not be started immediately
Hind Rajab disappeared when she and her relatives left Gaza City by car to escape the Israeli attack. The escape was stopped by Israeli forces.
According to the Red Crescent, Hind Rajab’s cousin also had time to make an emergency call, with which he said tanks were approaching the car. The course of events is not completely clear, but based on the phone calls, it is believed that 6-year-old Hindi was the last survivor in the car.
A couple of weeks after the emergency call, the relatives said they had found the car in which the fleeing family members had traveled. Everyone in the car was dead.
According to the girl’s grandfather, the Israeli forces had just withdrawn from the area, so they could finally go to look for their family members.
The Palestinian Red Crescent blames Israel and says that its armed forces had deliberately hit the ambulance that was sent to rescue the girl.
The aid organization released a video that it says shows the destroyed ambulance and the car in which Hind Rajab was traveling. According to the organization, two of its rescue workers were also killed.
The news agency AFP tried to reach the Israeli army for comment on the matter but did not receive a response.
