6 seasons are to be re released as a film

Films and series often make reference to classic fairy tales and fantasy stories. Hardly any other format has done this as much as the series Grimmwhich already reveals in its title which myths it mainly falls on. From 2011 to 2017, the fantasy series produced six seasons. Eight years after its end, it is now set to return as a film.

Fantasy series Grimm is being re-released as a film: a reboot with an independent story is coming

As Deadline reports, a Grimm reboot is in development, which will be served as a film to fantasy fans. The film was penned by Drop Dead Diva creator Josh Berman, who works for US streamer Peacock together with the creative team of the popular series. Both showrunners and executive producers David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf as well as Sean Hayes are back on board.

What exactly the Grimm reboot will be about is still being kept under wraps. But the film should make references to the fantasy series, but also as independent story so that it also works for new viewers who don’t know the series. If the film is well received, a larger franchise should also be conceivable.

Fantasy reboot Grimm: Manhunt in Grimm’s fairytale land

Grimm revolves around investigator Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli), who hunts criminals for the Portland homicide squad. One day his life is turned upside down when he finds out that he is a so-called Grimm – a Guardian tasked with maintaining balance between humans and mythical beings. Together with Detective Hank Griffin (Russell Hornsby) and his friend Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell), who is one of the creatures, he has to face all kinds of dangerous creatures.

Many of the creatures are based on characters who known from the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm are. Each story in the fantasy series also begins with a quote from a fairy tale.

The film is currently in the early stages of development. It will be some time before we get to see this one. We expect a publication not before 2026 to 2027.
