Stroke is among the most common and fatal diseases. Every year, 17 million people in the world suffer from stroke, 6 million of them die. Sharing statistical data, Dr. Mehmet Kolu said, “Every minute, one person in the world has a stroke. One out of every 6 people will have a minor or major stroke in their lifetime. We can say that it is a common, fatal disease with a high risk of disability. Until 2014, almost the only option we had in these patients was some anticoagulant drugs administered through a vein. But later on, entering the inguinal vein, which we call thrombectomy, and removing the clot has become very common and frequently used both in the world and in Turkey, and patients are now seeing a lot of benefit from this treatment,” he said.
IT’S usually paralyzed on one side
Stating that they also do this procedure frequently, Dr. Kolu said, “Brain tissue can generally withstand these cerebral vascular occlusions up to the first 6 hours. However, in studies performed after 6 hours, a completely dead tissue occurs in the area fed by the vessel. In transactions made after 6 hours, we cannot provide a certain benefit in general, but not all. Therefore, it is very important that these patients are recognized quickly and directed to the centers where such procedures are performed, or that the patients themselves apply. Stroke is the blockage of a cerebral artery. Occlusion of any vessel and complaints depending on the region where the vessel feeds the brain. These are usually paralysis on one side. There is slippage in one half of the face. Speech and comprehension are impaired. Loss of consciousness may occur in these patients. Some of these patients may even fall into a coma. It can cause visual disturbances.
