According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), a 6.6 magnitude earthquake was recorded at 01:08 local time and at a depth of 45 kilometers in the Hyuga-nada Sea off the southern Kyushu region.

In the earthquake, which was felt intensely in Oita, Miyazaki, Kochi and Kumamoto states, 5 people were injured in Oita and 4 people were injured in Miyazaki.

No tsunami warning was issued for the earthquake, the magnitude of which was first announced as 6.4 and then updated to 6.6. There were power and water cuts in some cities.

It was reported that no abnormality was detected in the nuclear power plants operated by the Kyushu Electric Power (Kyuden) company throughout the region.
