The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) announced that the epicenter of the earthquake was approximately 57 kilometers south of the city of Panguna.
According to initial reports, there was no loss of life or property in the earthquake, which occurred at a depth of approximately 41 kilometers.
NO TSUNAMI WARNING WAS ISSUED!
No tsunami warning was issued following the earthquake. Papua New Guinea lies on the “Pacific Ring of Fire,” where most of the world’s earthquakes and volcanic activity occur.
