5G is finally becoming accessible to everyone. In this 2024 back-to-school season, operators large and small are engaged in a real price war with generous packages offered at prices never seen before. It’s time to take advantage!

First rolled out at the end of 2020, 5G was for a long time reserved for users willing to dig deep into their pockets, with fairly expensive plans. But times are changing, and this mobile phone technology is finally becoming more widespread, four years after its introduction, with operators seemingly doing everything they can to make it accessible to everyone since the summer – while attracting new customers in the process. It started with Orange and Sosh, its low-cost subsidiary, who, on the occasion of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, decided to offer access to 5G to all 4G subscribers, without additional costs or the need to change their mobile plan. This lovely gift has since been extended until the end of September. It didn’t take long for SFR to follow suit, integrating 5G into all its mobile plans at no extra cost, and on a permanent basis, before being quickly followed by Bouygues Telecom through its B&YOU offer, while the 5G option was previously billed at 3 euros per month.

Since the start of the school year, mobile operators have been engaged in a real price war, offering subscriptions including 5G for less than 10 euros, with unlimited calls, SMS and MMS, all including a nice data package. This is totally unprecedented among the major operators!

5G packages at 8 euros: temporary offers for the start of the school year

We start with Bouygues Telecom, which has decided to make a big splash by unveiling its new mobile offer. Through its subsidiary B&YOU, the French operator is offering a 5G package containing 110 GB of data in France and 25 GB in Europe for €7.99 per month, with no commitment or time limit. Of course, calls, text messages and picture messages are unlimited. Be careful not to wait too long, however, because you can only subscribe to this offer until September 30.

For its part, Free is launching a special 5G package at €7.99 per month, with no commitment and again with no time limit (and therefore “for life” in principle), including 110 GB of data in France and 20 GB in Europe. Be careful, here again, the offer is only available until September 30, and you must be a Veepee member to take advantage of it – with the exception of Free subscribers who have canceled their mobile line in the 30 days preceding the subscription to the promotional offer.

SFR is not to be outdone and is offering, through its subsidiary RED, a 5G package at €7.99 per month with 100 GB of data in France and 22 GB in Europe, again without commitment. However, there does not seem to be an expiration date for this offer.

On the other hand, there are no interesting offers at the moment from Orange and Sosh, whose 5G offers remain quite expensive. But MVNOs, virtual operators, are not left out either. And there are now several 5G packages for less than 10 euros at Cdiscount Mobile, NRJ Mobile, Prixtel, Syma or Lebara.

So there’s no doubt about it: if you have a compatible phone and if you’re in a covered area, it’s time to switch to 5G at a lower price, even if it means playing the competition and changing operators. Hurry up and take advantage of it, because we don’t know how long it will last!
