556,000 people watch as a German Twitch streamer pulls rivets in CS:GO for €120,000

The German Twitch streamer ohnePixel (25) is known for its CS:GO (Steam) content, which is less about outstanding gameplay and more about opening cases. In a huge stream, he now opened boxes worth almost 120,000 euros, but almost only pulled rivets.

What streamer is this? ohnePixel is a German streamer for Valve’s tactical shooter CS:GO. Its content mainly revolves around opening loot boxes and trading with the resulting skins.

In the spring of 2023, the hype surrounding the CS:GO successor Counter-Strike 2 swept the Twitch scene and gave the ohnePixel channel explosive growth. From March to May alone, the 25-year-old gained 320,000 new followers and now has over 700,000 followers in total.

What stream was that? At the beginning of July, ohnePixel received a generous donation in the form of cases worth 118,000 euros. The streamer couldn’t believe it and even called his mother to share the news.

On July 7th he opened the boxes in a mega stream, for which the 25-year-old even dressed up and wore a suit.

How was the streaming? In a six-hour stream, ohnePixel opened one box after the other – and pulled rivet after rivet. Ultimately, the streamer received skins worth less than 4,500 euros. The experiment of a player who opened boxes for 200,000 euros already showed that the chances of valuable items in CS:GO are negligible.

Nevertheless, ohnePixel probably didn’t expect quite so much bad luck in his mega stream. “That was a kick in the butt,” says the 25-year-old, summing up his haul. His co-streamer Arrow adds, “I hate to say it, but that was the worst possible result.”

The reaction when only a sticker for a few hundred euros came out of the last capsule instead of the desired holo sticker for 20,000 can be seen here – watch out, it gets loud:

Streamer still comes out as a winner

Why was the stream still worth it? ohnePixel made a huge spectacle out of its record stream. In the run-up to the event, he was busy beating the drum on Twitter, and the stream itself was followed by large streamers such as MontanaBlack, Papaplatte and even xQc.

In this way, more than 556,000 unique viewers saw the stream, up to 232,224 viewers were watching at the same time. And many of them apparently intend to stay, as ohnePixel received more than 77,000 new followers and almost 29,000 new subscribers.

Despite all the bad luck, the mega stream turned out to be a success for ohnePixel. The new subs alone should give him at least 70,000 euros, plus advertising revenue and the money for sponsorship.

The streamer writes on Twitter that he doesn’t really value statistics, but a thank you seems appropriate.

The 25-year-old didn’t allow himself a break, because the very next day he threw himself into a win challenge with his CS:GO pal Arrow.

praise and criticism

How are the reactions? Not everyone can be happy for ohnePixel. In addition to numerous congratulations, there is also criticism for the stream. Because loot boxes and comparable mechanisms have long been criticized for being nothing more than gambling.

The Twitch streamer ItsSlikeR, for example, is said to have cheated its fans and other content creators out of hundreds of thousands of dollars to finance its gambling addiction. He later said it all started with CS:GO skins.

The case led to a tightening of guidelines for showing gambling on Twitch in 2022 – but opening cases in CS:GO is still allowed.

Twitch reporter Jake Lucky also praises the 25-year-old for his business acumen, but also urges his fans not to gamble (via Twitter).

ohnePixel is a German streamer but moved to the Netherlands for his studies and mostly streams in English. However, the 25-year-old has been talking about moving to Switzerland for a long time. In June 2023 he took a break from streaming, Twitch colleague MontanaBlack revealed that he was in the middle of moving.

It is unclear whether the decision has anything to do with the planned ban on loot boxes in the Netherlands:
