54 proposals on the to-do list – to prevent new violent riots

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

After the Easter coup last year, the police have both investigated and analyzed the violence that occurred in several cities around Sweden. Now the Work Environment Agency wants to know what concrete measures the police intend to take to become better at handling similar incidents in the future, writes the Police newspaper. Already in November last year, the Swedish Work Environment Authority carried out an inspection at the police’s national operational department, Noa, where the purpose was to follow up the investigations into the riots in connection with Rasmus Paludan’s Koran-burning tour at Easter 2022. They then requested a timed action plan with the measures the police plan to take in order to prevent similar riots from happening again. Noa then referred to the investigation carried out by former Mustchefen Gunnar Karlsson, which was presented at the end of last year. However, at the end of January this year, the Swedish Work Environment Authority stated that the police still had not presented an action plan. Delivered 54-item long list After some delay, the police have now submitted a list of 54 proposed measures. A number of the proposals deal with management and responsibility issues linked to riot situations and the special police tactic, SPT. Other proposals include further training in police conflict management, weapon handling, self-protection and improved intelligence work, the newspaper writes. Water cannons should also be introduced According to the action plan, equipment such as four-wheel drive SPT vehicles and water cannons should also be introduced. Fredrik Brokopp, area police chief and SPT police in Helsingborg, takes a positive view of several of the measures. Now all that remains is for the police to do what they promised. – Spitting out a list of improvement measures is not that difficult. We could have done that in the days after the riots. Now this must be followed up so that there really is a change, he tells the newspaper.
