500 kilos of space junk landed in Kenyan village
A village in northern Kenya was shaken earlier this week when a circular object with a weight of around 500 kilograms and a diameter of 2.5 meters fell from the sky.
The Kenyan Space Agency has identified the object as space debris, CNN reports. Preliminary assessments claim that it is a so-called separation ring that has come loose in connection with a rocket launch.
– It is very, very unusual for objects this large to reach the ground. They are normally designed to burn up in the atmosphere, says Johan Köhler, head of the research and development department at the Swedish Space Agency, to Ekot in Sveriges Radio.

Clear decline for Swedish domestic flights
Clear decline for Swedish domestic flights
The number of flights via Swedavia’s airports is still well below pre-pandemic levels. For Swedish domestic aviation, 2024 meant another sharp decline.
A total of roughly 32 million passengers traveled via Swedavia’s ten airports last year. It is admittedly one percent higher than in 2023, but at the same time the figures can be compared to how it looked before the corona pandemic broke out at the beginning of 2020 when the aviation industry was hit with a killing blow.
Namely, the number of trips is only 81 percent compared to the level before the pandemic. There are also different developments when it comes to domestic and international travel. While international travel increased by five percent, domestic travel decreased by nine percent.
Among the airports with the biggest decline in domestic travel is Landvetter in Gothenburg, where the decline is ten percent compared to 2023. For Arlanda, the decline was four percent.

Scholz is worried about Musk’s influence in the German election
Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk has recently chosen to get involved in the new German election. Among other things, he has called Chancellor Olaf Scholz a “fool” and expressed support for the right-wing populist party AfD.
Now Scholz says Stern magazine that he doesn’t care that Musk insults him. However, he worries about Musk’s influence on the election.
– I think it is much more worrying that Musk supports a partially right-wing party like the AfD, which advocates a rapprochement with Putin’s Russia and wants to weaken transatlantic relations, he says.
Germany’s intelligence service has had the AfD party under surveillance for a couple of years due to suspicions of right-wing extremism.

According to the Finnish police, the young people drove off the road and over a bridge railing straight into the river.
The car was found upside down, almost entirely under the surface of the water.
The cause of the accident is not yet known, but the road must have been very slippery.
– At the moment there is no indication that alcohol would have had anything to do with the accident. We also don’t know anything about the car’s speed, says Detective Inspector Leif Malmberg to Svenska EPN.
