50 years of comics

The Angoulême International Comics Festival is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year (2023). As with every edition, fans of boxes and bubbles meet in the Charente city around meetings, exhibitions, conferences dedicated to the 9th Art.

Angoulême has been celebrating comic strips for 50 years, a 9th art that used to be marginal or even despised, and which is now totally recognized. For half a century, the city of Charente, in the New Aquitaine region, has been welcoming readers and promoting publishers, screenwriters, designers, colorists and other lovers of bubbles of all kinds.

In 50 years, manga has carved out a prominent place for itself in the landscape of publishing and festivals. The station district is even dedicated to him – with in particular the exhibition event on the saga ” The attack of the Titans “. Another district, on the banks of the Charente – is dedicated to young people – starring the Ivorian screenwriter Marguerite Abouet. The authors and autrices, for young and old from 7 to 77 years old, settle in all the streets of the city until January 29, 2023
