The Western genre is experiencing new heights thanks to the mega-success of the Yellowstone series. This has not left Netflix unscathed. And while the Paramount hit is heading towards its end without Kevin Costner next winter and the Yellowstone universe is being further expanded, Netflix is now embarking on a major Western offensive.
This year and next year we will start a total of 5 (classic and modern) western serieswhich Netflix is positioning as exciting alternatives to the series in the Yellowstone universe. Whether it’s ranch wars, settler conflicts in the Wild West or drama in the world of rodeo: the streaming giant has a few interesting new releases for Dutton fans. Here’s an overview:

The first exciting Yellowstone alternative is October 24, 2024 the series Territory on Netflix, which is essentially an Australian version of the Dutton saga. It centers on the Lawson family, who run the largest cattle ranch in the world in the outback. But there is a problem: there is no suitable successor to continue the business.
As a power struggle erupts within the family, their rivals attack. Unscrupulous mine owners, rival cattle ranchers and gangsters: Everyone wants to take the land back from the Lawsons. The cast includes Anna Torv (Mindhunter), Sam Corlett (Vikings: Valhalla) and Michael Dorman (One Piece).

If you enjoyed the Yellowstone prequel 1883, you should American Primeval definitely put it on your watchlist. The western series written by Mark L. Smith (The Revenant) and directed by Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights) is set to still in 2024 on Netflix and sounds like an ideal 1883 replacement.
In American Primeval, a Settler Trek in the 19th century in the American West and gets into brutal conflicts with indigenous peoples and other factions who want to claim the coveted land for themselves. The cast includes Taylor Kitsch (The Terminal List), Dane DeHaan (Oppenheimer) and Betty Gilpin (Mrs. Davis).

If you still haven’t had enough of the 19th century Wild West, then The Abandons next year will quench your thirst for westerns. The story takes us to the 1850s and follows a matriarch who, together with her four adopted children, must defend her estate in Oregon against greedy aristocrats.
But The Abandons is not only known for its Yellowstone parallels exciting. It is also the new series project from Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter, which boasts a well-known cast. The cast includes Lena Headey (Game of Thrones), Gillian Anderson (Sex Education), Lucas Till (MacGyver) and Nick Robinson (Love, Simon).
4. Yellowstone alternative on Netflix: Ransom Canyon

If Yellowstone is too brutal for you, then the modern western drama Ransom Canyon could be just the thing for you. Instead of violence and intrigue, the focus here is on the human dramas (and a touch of romance) from the lives of three ranching families from the small Texas town of Ransom Canyon.
The western family saga with Josh Duhamel, Minka Kelly and James Brolin based on an eight-part novel series by Jodi Thomas. If the 10-episode first season of Ransom Canyon becomes a success on Netflix next year, there will be enough material for further seasons.
