With fall and soon winter, our hands dry out more quickly. But do you know how to properly apply hand cream to get the best benefits? An expert shared her routine in 5 points.
The wind, the cold, the temperature changes, and the frequent washing of hands when the virus season approaches can destroy our soft skin. The ideal in this case is to carry with you a tube of hand cream adapted to the nature of your skin, which will provide you with comfort and protection throughout the day.
Apply your cream correctly in 5 steps
But do you know how to properly apply your cream? To pamper your hands without forgetting space? Solène Gayet, director of the skincare brand Leos’ olive tree shared the good actions she recommends to users.
- Take a generous dab of product to place on the back of your hands. Start massaging back to back with wide, circular movements then interlace your palms and cross your fingers;
- Open one hand. In a circular motion, massage the palm using your thumb, starting at the hollow. Gently expand the movement outwards, gradually increasing the pressure exerted;
- Then take the time to massage and smooth the fingers one by one, focusing on the joints to relieve tension, and going up to the tips of the nails, contours and cuticles;
- Finally, spread the excess cream to the wrists, and massage around the wrists with a circular motion;
- Then move on to the second hand, proceeding in the same way for the massage. One minute of massage allows the nourishing agents to penetrate well into the upper layers of the epidermis and provide a feeling of immediate comfort and well-being.
Other tips for keeping hands soft
To avoid drying out, there are also other habits to adopt on a daily basis, which we sometimes tend to forget.
- Wash your hands with lukewarm, not hot, water. Likewise, use a mild soap, gently dry your hands with a soft towel. Reserve hydro-alcoholic solutions for outdoor needs.
- Set up a nighttime routine, if you really want to pamper your hands, with a rich cream, and why not gloves, if your hands need repair.
- Don’t forget the sunscreen. To protect your hands, always apply sunscreen to the back of your hands when you plan to be out in the sun. Not only will it limit dehydration caused by the sun, but you will keep your hands looking younger.
