We’ve all been to a library at some point and many know that when you’re in a library, you keep the volume down and be as quiet as you can so as not to disturb.
But there are other things to consider when visiting a library, whether it’s a city library or a university library.
Things the librarian is bothered about you doing in the library
In an interview with News24 says the librarian Siri Lundh five things that bother her that people do in the library.
Siri has worked as a librarian at Stockholm University Library for almost six months and helps researchers and students find books in the library, puts books on their shelves and answers questions about how to find different books.
What can’t you do in the library?
– It bothers me when people leave rubbish on tables and in bookshelves. It looks very ugly and is not nice, says Siri.
She also says that the library has many different bins, so that there is therefore no reason to put rubbish in other places.
Another thing Siri doesn’t appreciate people doing in the library is eating.
– When people eat whole meals in the library, it gets messy and can smell a lot. Snacks and such are fine.
When people leave post-it notes in the books or bookmarks, that is also something that Siri does not appreciate.
Putting books in the wrong place
– When people leave notes in the books, you have to take extra time to remove everything and it feels very unnecessary, says Siri and continues:
– When people have looked at books and then put them back in the wrong place on the shelves, it is also difficult. Then we have to check and put them back in the right place again. There are special carts to put the books on when you are done, so it will be right.
Finally, Siri wishes that people who talk on the phone in the parts you get, don’t talk so loudly.
– Actually, it doesn’t bother me that much in the service, but I know that it would bother me if I visited a library myself, says Siri Lundh to Nyheter24.
