1. The quake

At 13.30 local time, Myanmar was hit by a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7. The epicenter of the quake was near the major cities of Mandalay and Taunggyi. Heavy shaking was also felt in Thailand, Vietnam and China.

2. Bangkok

Many Swedes are in the multi -million town of Bangkok where the strong quake felt. A skyscraper in the city has collapsed and people are stuck in the masses. Aftonbladet has talked to several people who testify to panic when the earthquake felt in the city.

The earthquake took place on land, which means that there is no risk of tsunami.

According to the US geological authority, thousands of people are feared to have lost their lives in the powerful earthquake. Seismologist Björn Lund tells Aftonbladet that quake of this magnitude leads to extensive damage.

The Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been reached by the information about the earthquake. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges Swedes on site to contact their relatives, keep up to date on the development of events and follow the councils and instructions of local authorities.
