On July 9th and 10th, the Battle Weekend will take place in Pokémon GO. During this period, you can again benefit from event attacks on some monsters. We at MeinMMO have therefore looked at which monsters you should definitely develop.
What is this event? Pokemon GO is currently running the 6th anniversary event for the game. This also includes a mini-event in the form of a battle weekend. Here you can meet Team GO Rocket and benefit from some bonuses.
One of these bonuses are special event moves, which the starter Pokémon of the first 5 generations of the game can learn when evolving this weekend. Below we have created an overview for you of which monsters you should definitely develop and, above all, why it is worth it.
When is the mini event? The Battle Weekend starts on July 09, 2022 at 00:00 local time and runs until July 10, 2022 at 23:59. During this period you have the opportunity to secure the event attacks.
You should evolve these 5 Pokémon
What are these attacks? In all cases, the special event attacks are attacks that could already be learned from these Pokémon in the past, for example at Community Day.
Outside of such events, switching to these attacks is only possible using a Top Instant TM or Top Charged TM. The following attacks can be learned:
What does the overview include? Not all of the above monsters are used in raids or the GO Battle League. For this reason, we have listed 5 Pokémon below that are particularly worth developing for you. We will explain to you for which areas the monsters are best suited.
Hydropi to Sumpex
Event Attack: aqua howitzer
What kind of Pokemon is Hydropi? Hydropi is a Water-type Starter Pokémon from Generation 3. It can be evolved into Sumpex via Moorabbel.
Why is it worth developing? Sumpex is a real all-rounder and shouldn’t be missing from your Pokebag. The Pokémon can score especially in endurance. But his attack and defense are also impressive.
Since Sumpex is not a pure Water-type Pokémon, but also a Ground-type, it is not as vulnerable to Electric, Rock, and Poison-type attacks as the other Water starter Pokémon. This makes it much more resilient, especially against electric attackers.
With an Aqua Gun and Aqua Howitzer moveset, it’s one of the best water attackers in the game. The event attack is loaded relatively quickly and also does a lot of damage.
But Sumpex is also more than suitable for the GO battle league, which is why it is best to secure several copies at once. The Pokémon is at the forefront of all three leagues.
According to the PvPoke ranking, it is ranked 15th in the Super League, 4th in the Hyper League and 29th in the Master League. In PvP combat, it is best to use a move set of Clay Shot, Aqua Howitzer and Earthquake.
Bulbasaur to Bulbasaur
Event Attack: Flora statue
What kind of Pokemon is Bulbasaur? Bulbasaur is the Plant and Poison-type Starter Pokémon from the 1st generation of games. You can evolve it through Bisaknosp into Bisaflor. In addition, Bisaflor has a temporary Mega Evolution that you can trigger with the help of the corresponding Mega Energy.
Why is it worth developing? If you like to play raids often, you should definitely have a Bisaflor with you. With its good attack, stamina and defense values, as well as a move set consisting of a vine slash and a flora statue, the monster makes it into the 10 best plant attackers in Pokémon GO.
Since it also has a mega development, you should use it, if possible, especially in battle. This not only strengthens your attacks, but also the attacks of your fellow combatants.
Unlike Blossom Swirl and Solar Beam, the two Charged Attacks Venusaur can also learn, Flora Statue charges significantly faster and does more damage on top of that. In addition, it benefits from its Poison type. This ensures that Bisaflor is also not as susceptible to combat and fairy attacks.
But bisaflor can not only be seen in raids. It also plays well in the super and hyper leagues. In the master league, on the other hand, his low number of WP throws a spanner in the works. Maybe you will meet your mega development here at some point, if it should be released for the GO Battle League.
Charmander to Charizard
Event Attack: Breath of Fire and Cannonade of Blaze
What kind of Pokémon is Charmander? Another starter Pokémon from the first generation of games is Charmander. The Fire-type Pokémon can be evolved into Charizard via Glutexo. In addition, you can evolve Charizard into one of two different Mega Pokémon using Mega Energy.
Why is it worth developing? Unlike all other starter Pokémon, Charizard can learn two event attacks during the battle weekend: Breath of Fire (instant attack) and Blaze Cannonade (charged attack).
The Fire- and Flying-type Pokemon has average attack, stamina, and defense stats. Still, it can benefit from a fast and powerful moveset with a Fire Whirl and Blaze Cannonade moveset, making it one of the best Fire Attackers in Pokémon GO.
With its two Mega Evolutions, Mega Charizard X and Mega Charizard Y, it’s even a bit better with the same move set, and it also boosts all other fire attacks in battle.
In the GO Battle League, you can use Charizard especially in the Hyper League. According to PvPoke, it ranks 35th there. In contrast to the raids, the immediate event attack Fire Breath is also used here.
This is of the dragon type, incredibly fast and also does a solid damage. Therefore, it is best to use a move set of fire breath, blaze cannonade and dragon claw in the GO Battle League.
Endive to Megania
Event Attack: Flora statue
What kind of Pokemon is Endive? Endive is a second-generation Plant Starter Pokémon that can be evolved into Meganium via Bay Leaf.
Why is it worth developing? The grass-type Pokémon Meganie can’t score as well in attack, but it convinces in endurance and defense. Because of this, it is one of the best candidates for the GO Battle League.
With a move set of Vine Slash, Flora Statue, and Earthquake, it scores particularly well in Superleague at rank 44 and Hyperleague at rank 14. You shouldn’t ignore the Crypto variant of Meganie, especially in the Hyperliga, which even made it to 8th place there.
Just like Bisaflor, it has a fast and powerful charge attack with the event attack, which you should definitely secure for the fight weekend.
Squirtle to Turtok
Event Attack: aqua howitzer
What kind of Pokemon is Squirtle? The first generation Water-type starter Pokémon is Squirtle. The little turtle can be further developed via Schillok to Turtok, which, just like Bulbasaur and Charizard, has a mega development.
Why is it worth developing? If you look at Turtok’s values, you will find that they are only average. It can score a little more in defense and endurance than in attack. That’s why the turtle doesn’t make it into the top 10 water attackers in the game.
Only in its mega development is it used in raids with a move set of aqua gun and aqua howitzer. It can benefit from a fast attack combination of aqua gun and aqua howitzer and also does a lot of damage to the opponent.
In the GO Battle League, you might also be interested in the Hyper League. While it’s not quite as strong as Sumpex, it still ranks 34 there as a water attacker and is a good alternative. Set there on a move set of aqua gun, aqua howitzer and ice beam.
Are there other strong starter Pokémon?
Yes, in addition to the 5 mentioned Pokémon, other starters are worthwhile. Alternatively, if you want a strong candidate for use in raids, you can also use these developments, because they are all among the best attackers in Pokémon GO:
The following developments are also suitable in the PvP league:
Do Shadow Pokémon also get this event attack?
You can also benefit from the event moves on your Shadow Pokémon if you evolve them. During the fight weekend, you also have the chance to unlearn your cryptos the charging attack frustration.
How does this work? The user _The-Space_Monkey_ explains in his reddit article what exactly you have to consider in order to secure the event attacks for your Crypto Pokémon. So you have to first unlearn frustration with the desired Pokémon before you develop it. You do this with the help of a charging TM.
For example, if you have a Crypto-Hydropi that you want to develop into Crypto-Sumpex, you must first give it a Charge TM. If the Frustration Charged Attack has changed to any other, then you can evolve the Pokemon and eventually get a Crypto Sumpex with the Aqua Cannon event move.
Is it worth it? Shadow Pokémon benefit from 20% higher Attack than their normal forms. For this reason, they are particularly suitable for use in raids. At the same time, since their defenses are weakened, they don’t last as long in combat. Nevertheless, one or the other strong Crypto Pokémon can also be found in the GO Battle League.
Are you looking forward to the fight weekend? Which monsters will you evolve to secure the event attack? And which cryptos do you want to unlearn frustration with? Feel free to write us your opinion here on MeinMMO in the comments and exchange ideas with other trainers.
