Few employees paid attention to this planned shift in the schedule.
An additional margin will have to be provided. 5 million French people will not be paid straight away, as usual, at the end of May. Salaries will arrive a little later than expected and the people concerned have not been notified by their employer, unless they know by heart the payment schedule planned at the start of the year. A reminder therefore seems necessary to avoid an unpleasant surprise for these workers who could suffer from the delay in payment.
In all companies and various structures, salaries are paid on the same date every month, or almost. This is a legal obligation, even if no deadline is included in the texts. It just needs to be always at the same time. Thus, this sometimes leads to variations on the day the pay is sent by the employer and, therefore, received by the employee. Lags mainly due to the calendar with, sometimes, usual dates falling on weekends.
But for 5 million workers, the rule is -a little- different. In fact, civil servants’ salaries are paid two working days before the last working day of the month. Gibberish? Concretely, a working day corresponds to those of Monday to Friday. The last of each month is taken and, two days before, the transfer is made by the administration. Is this still not clear? The example of May is the most telling.
The last working day this month is a Friday and it falls on the 31st. Thus, transfer orders for the payment of salaries will only be made on Wednesday the 29th. However, as always, it is necessary, in addition, to count a delay of 24 to 48 hours for the money to arrive in the official’s bank account. It is therefore only on Thursday 30 or Friday 31 that civil servants will see their wallets filled again. For these servants of the State, this month of May is therefore financially extended since, at the end of April, they had received their pay around the 27th.
All civil servants are affected by this payment date: teachers, hospital staff, town hall, department and regional employees, as well as all people working in public administrations. It should be noted that if this month, the pay arrives late, in June, it will be credited to the accounts on the 27th or 28th of the month.
