Fans of Monster Hunter will have to wait a little longer for the next part, but until then you can pass the time with other games. We present you 5 games that are similar to Monster Hunter here.
How were the games selected? There are several factors that make up a Monster Hunter game.
The following games were selected based on all or most of these factors and offer you variety until the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds.
1. Wild Hearts
The most modern Monster Hunter clone comes from EA and Koei Tecmo in the form of Wild Hearts. The game was developed by Omega Force, the makers behind Dynasty Warriors. Here, too, you fight large monsters in an Asian fantasy setting. The special gimmick is the so-called Karakuri. These are pieces of equipment that help you in battle.
Unlike Monster Hunter, Wild Hearts mixes various animals with elements such as earth or plants in its monster design. It is often reminiscent of Ghibli creatures, such as those from Princess Mononoke. The types of weapons are very similar to Monster Hunter. A highlight, however, is the combat umbrella.
Wild Hearts is available on Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.
MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus was impressed by the game: I log into Wild Hearts every day just to die.
2. Toukiden 2
Another game from Koei Tecmo is Toukiden 2. In Toukiden 2 you also fight huge monsters in the form of Oni, ogre-like demons from Japanese mythology. What makes the game special is the large open world in which you move. Mitamas are the main mechanic of the game, which give you various bonuses or abilities.
Most of the weapon types are familiar from Monster Hunter, but weapons worth mentioning are the Chainwhip and the Gauntlets. Toukiden 2 is most reminiscent of Monster Hunter Rise. If you like other action titles from Koei Tecmo, you’ll feel at home here too.
Toukiden 2 is available on Steam and PlayStation 4.
3. God Eater 3
If you love anime and Monster Hunter, God Eater 3 is probably the perfect game for you. You play a member of the God Eater special unit in the post-apocalypse. In quests you have to fight god-like monsters, whose design is reminiscent of Final Fantasy bosses.
Due to the setting, there are more modern weapons and more ranged combat options than in Monster Hunter. At the same time, God Eater 3 also has a greater focus on the story, which most anime fans might like.
God Eater 3 is available on Switch, Steam and PlayStation 4. You can see two more titles on the next page.
