Anime is weird at times and creates relationships that would be way too spicy for real life. Exactly this anime we present to you today.
The world of anime sometimes gets a little wacky. Not only crazy, supernatural fights, but also on an emotional level there are sometimes relationships where you raise your eyebrows in amazement and yet develop the desire to see exactly how it goes on. For that very reason, we’ve made a list of 5 anime where human relationships that you might consider a bit “questionable” are an important aspect of the story.
We describe relationships as “questionable” here that would in reality be socially frowned upon or are associated with emotional baggage that is not necessarily beneficial.
As almost always, we have put together a colorful mix of anime series – from very serious, dramatic topics to comedy, everything is included. Have fun!
Alternative names: Higehiro
Genres: drama, romance
Stream available on: Crunchy roll
Episodes: 13 (completed)
The office worker Yoshida finally dared to confess his love to his superiors – and was rebuffed with ice cold. In his frustration, he then gets drunk and doesn’t return home until late at night. On the way home he meets a young woman who is looking for a place to stay for the night and offers him sex in return. He takes her with him but keeps his hands off her.
The next day, sane again, he talks to the woman and it turns out that “Sayu” is still a minor, has run away from home and is currently jumping from one guy to another to have a roof over his head. Yoshida decides to break this cycle and offer Sayu a home, knowing full well that if he ever finds out he’s harboring a minor in his apartment, he’ll have one foot in prison.
While Yoshida slips more and more into the role of a father, Sayu develops completely different feelings that both of them have to deal with.
What should you expect from Higehiro? While you may still raise your eyebrows a bit in surprise during the first episode, you are captivated by the characters and the story from the second episode at the latest. Both Sayu and Yoshida are strong characters that many can relate to. Even if the humor flashes up every now and then in the series, the story is ultimately quite emotional and profound.
Higehiro is an unreserved recommendation for everyone. It is probably one of the most emotional and best anime of recent years, which will bring tears to many people’s eyes.
We have explained here why some anime have such absurdly long names.
Scum’s Wish
Alternative names: Kuzu no Honkai
Genres: drama, romance
Stream available on: Amazon Prime Video
Episodes: 12 (completed)
At first glance, Hanabi and Mugi seem like the perfect couple – but they share a secret. Both are in love with someone who is unattainable for them. Hanabi is in love with her much older childhood friend, who now works as a teacher at her school. Mugi, on the other hand, is also in love with a teacher who used to tutor him when she was still a student herself and had seduced him. As if that weren’t enough, it is now becoming apparent that these two adored teachers could now enter into a relationship themselves – which Hanabi and Mugi are trying to prevent.
Until the two can summon up the courage to confess their love, they give each other support and lead an illusory relationship, the seriousness of which fluctuates again and again – and which others also want to exploit for themselves.
What should you expect from Scum’s Wish? Scum’s Wish is one of those anime that goes deep into the complex characters, revealing their personalities and showing thought processes in detail. It often happens that half an episode consists only of the thoughts and internal monologues of one of the protagonists – and yet that never gets boring. The story shows how multifaceted relationships can be and that even the noblest person sometimes uses others to gain validation.
