$45K in suspected drugs seized after traffic stop: Chatham-Kent police

Officers arrested a man and seized $45,000 in suspected drugs during a traffic stop in Chatham Thursday as part of a drug-trafficking probe, Chatham-Kent police say.

Intelligence unit and community patrol branch took part in the stop on Grand Avenue East, police said in release Friday.

After a search, officers seized various substances, including suspected fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine, with an estimated street value exceeding $45,000, digital scales, packaging materials and about $2,500 in cash, police said.

The didn’t possess a valid driver’s license, police said.

A West Lorne man, 27, is charged with four counts of operating a motor vehicle while prohibited and three counts of possessing a scheduled substance for trafficking., police said. He was released with conditions and a future court date.

His vehicle was seized as part of the Criminal Code vehicle impound program and held pending further judicial authorization.

Chatham man faces historical assault charges

Officers responded to a reported disturbance on Wellington Street West in Chatham early Thursday, Chatham-Kent police say.

On investigation, officers learned of alleged historical clashes between a man and woman, police said.

A Chatham man, 23, faces two counts each of assault causing bodily harm, assault, and mischief, and one count of assault with a weapon, police said. He was held pending a bail hearing.
