Protests against coronavirus restrictions continue in Austria. In the capital Vienna, as in the past week, approximately 44 thousand people took to the streets this week, protesting the restrictions imposed by the government against the coronavirus and the mandatory vaccination decision taken by the government.
While the demonstrators frequently chanted “We are human” and “Resistance”, they carried banners reading “No to compulsory vaccination” and “Hands off our children”.
“PROTESTS WILL CONTINUE”
Austrian Freedom Party leader Herbert Kickl announced in his speech that the protests would continue. Outside of Vienna, around 2,500 people in Klagenfurt and 150 in Linz reportedly protested the restrictions.
TENSIONS HAVE HAPPENED
After the speeches, the protesters marched. During the march, far-right groups targeted some journalists and police and threw various objects. Tensions arose between the police and extreme right-wing extremists in the action, in which approximately 1400 police officers took part.
THERE ARE DETENTIONS
In the statement made by the Vienna Police Department, it was reported that many people who made Nazi propaganda and did not comply with the Kovid-19 measures were penalized. The statement also announced that at least 3 people were detained for resisting the police.
MANDATORY VACCINE DECISION
On the other hand, Austria became the first European country to declare a curfew before the winter season after increasing coronavirus cases. The government is also planning to make the coronavirus vaccine mandatory as of February, and is preparing to implement the new regulation, which includes paying a fine of 3,600 euros for every 3 months, for people aged 14 and over who delay getting vaccinated.
Since the beginning of the epidemic in Austria, 1 million 225 thousand 555 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus, while 13 thousand 143 people have died due to Covid-19.
