During his studies, Kees came to the COC to meet fellow sufferers, it was a safe place. Childhood friend Frans Bakker will also be there and for the opening of the new COC building they will perform with their brand new cabaret Spitsroeden. Members of the cabaret were active in the COC and committed to gay acceptance, which was desperately needed at that time. The cabaret consisted of sharp lyrics and songs and that’s how they stood on the barricade with Spitsroeden: “I remember the first time we performed. Frans Bakker showed up naked and said: ‘what is a fagot cabaret without confrontational nudity. Where is it? that straight man who closed his eyes in front of my cock.’ And at that very first performance, my father and mother were also in the audience and they said: I really enjoyed it, but I had to do that at the beginning. I said, yes, that had to be done.” Over time, the lyrics of the songs have less and less of a gay character, they become pop songs. A few other musicians were recruited and Kadanz was born.
