40 million phone calls to stop the war

In Lithuania, solidarity with Ukraine is total. The two countries have a long common history and Vilnius has long been committed to supporting Ukraine on the European path, since the Orange Revolution of 2004. Here, the war revolts and horrifies. Disinformation is one of the weapons of this conflict. Lithuanians have decided to open their eyes to the Russians, who still believe in this special operation.

From our correspondent in Vilnius, Marielle Vitureau

To fight against misinformation, Paulius Seniuta has a weapon: the telephone book. For this communication specialist, if the Russians support the war and believe that it is only a special operation in Ukraine, it is because they are watered with lies.

He therefore decided to launch a major action to open their eyes and ears by calling them directly: “ Most people know nothing. About two-thirds of the people I’ve called react very aggressively. They believe this is yet another disinformation campaign from the West. »

This action was born precisely in Lithuania, because the consequences of disinformation are known there. This is where the “elves” were born after the annexation of Crimea in 2014 to fight Russian trolls.

Giedrius Juozapavicius called a retired couple in the Urals. The conversation was difficult, but the important thing is to sow doubt: ” There are so many dead soldiers. Their bodies will begin to be repatriated. Economic sanctions will weigh. People will start looking for answers, because in the end everything does not turn out so as the power tells us “.

In the meantime, all Lithuanians are encouraged to call. A website gives practical advice. The goal: to make 40 million calls.
