Waiting for you on Tele 5 today two pretty dark horror films in one gowhich couldn’t be more different. It starts with the atmospheric occult shocker Sinister with its deeply disturbing images. This will be followed by the brutal serial killer thriller Saw: Spiral, which acts as a spin-off to the Saw series and can be seen for the first time on free TV.
Tonight on TV: Sinister is one of the scariest films of the last 20 years
In Sinister we accompany a brilliantly acting Ethan Hawke as true crime writer Ellison Oswalt as he researches his new book. He conveniently found the material for this in the attic of the house he had recently moved into with his family.
But the old Super 8 film reels offer images that are some of the most disturbing horror scenes of all time. Ellison wants to decipher their cruel secret and has no idea what nightmare he will unleash.
According to the annual scientific study Science of Scare, Sinister is currently considered scariest movie of all time. The result is certainly no accident, as director Scott Derrickson’s (The Black Phone) ambivalent mix of subtle tension and radical shocks is incredibly effective. The 2012 film is a Goosebumps supplier par excellence!
Free TV premiere Saw: Spiral sends Chris Rock (!) on a serial killer hunt
Chris Rock (Child’s Heads), best known as a comedian, is such a big fan of the Saw franchise that he promptly pitched an idea for a spin-off to those responsible. This got the green light and finally came to cinemas in 2021 as Saw: Spiral.
Rock himself took on the lead role as Detective Zeke Banks, who investigates a series of brutal police murders. The victims were all killed with spectacular trapswhich is reminiscent of the perfidious approach of the infamous Jigsaw Killer. Does Banks’ own father, ex-cop Marcus (Samuel L. Jackson), have something to do with the serial bloodshed?
The film by director and Saw veteran Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw 2-4) seemingly takes a different approach than all of its predecessors in the popular horror series. But Saw: Spiral is only superficially a crime thriller à la Sieben, the focus is still on the death traps that are brimming with diabolical creativity. The ninth entry in the franchise is also on the forefront aimed at fans of torture porn and splatter orgies.
