4 hour fantasy marathon with two of the most unusual films in the genre

The film marathon on TV starts with The Fairy Tale of Fairy Tales, which divides opinion and is extremely unusual even for a fantasy film. The magic continues with Big Trouble in Little China by John Carpenter, which went from a box office flop to a fast-paced cult classic.

The fairy tale of fairy tales on TV: A disturbing fantasy film

In three stories, Salma Hayek, Toby Jones and Vincent Cassel take us into the world of fairy tales. In one wild mix of different styles and countless ideas tell stories about unfulfilled children’s wishes, strange pets and mysterious passions.

In times of softened Disney fairy tale adaptations, one can quickly forget that the originals by the Brothers Grimm or Hans Christian Andersen are definitely true cruel and disturbing are. The fairy tale of fairy tales maintains closeness to the original and uses various elements from these folk tales.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the adult fairy tale is described as a scary, disturbing creature that is reviving the genre with its surreal humor and gothic horror. On the rating page the film receives excellent 83 percent positive reviewsalthough the audience is more reserved and, like us, only rates it in the middle range.

Big Trouble in Little China on TV: Absolute fantasy cult with Kurt Russell

In 1986, Big Trouble in Little China failed to compete with Aliens at the box office. But the home theater release starring Kurt Russell and Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall quickly became a popular cult classic.

Here, trucker Jack Burton (Russell) sees it as his duty to help his friend, whose fiancée has been kidnapped by the evil David Lo Pan (James Hong). What seems like a mundane crime soon turns out to be supernatural adventurewhich takes the heroes on a crazy trip where they have to deal with black magic, merciless kung fu masters and a descent into the underworld.

The bizarre action adventure impressed both audiences and critics on Rotten Tomatoes. It says in summary: “Full of energy and full of humor distilled Big Trouble in Little China Kung-Fu B-Movies as lovingly as he undermines them.” We also rated the film worth seeing with 6.8 out of 10 points.

When will the two fantasy films be on TV?

The fantasy marathon starts with The Fairy Tale of Fairy Tales on today Saturday, October 26th at 8:15 p.m. on Tele 5. The Kung Fu adventure follows immediately afterwards 10:50 p.m.
