They are the first to face charges of the nearly 1,200 people who are still detained after the riot. The accusations include armed criminal association and violence against the democratic state.

At the same time, more than 800 of the persons deprived of their liberty have been brought before custody proceedings, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Thousands of supporters of ex-president Jair Bolsonaro entered the presidential palace, Congress and the Supreme Court. They smashed windows and furniture, destroyed artwork and scrawled messages calling for a military coup.
Security is strengthened
Security at the government buildings has since been strengthened. The battalion of military police in charge of security will permanently double its strength to 500 police, Acting District Governor Celina Leao announced on Monday.
Leao has stepped in for Ibaneis Rocha, who is being investigated for possible links to the riots and has been relieved of his duties for 90 days.
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and his attorney general have both said the unrest likely could not have happened without help from within, including from the security forces.
Investigating organizers
Authorities have launched an investigation into who or who made it possible for radical Bolsonaro supporters to carry out the storming.
Among other things, Bolsonaro’s former Minister of Justice Anderson Torres has been arrested in connection with the investigation.
Bolsonaro is also being investigated for inciting the riots. He is in the United States and has himself denied any involvement.
