Sitcom fans know Mayim Bialik today as Amy Farrah Fowler from The Big Bang Theory. For nine seasons, the actress played the iconic role of the neurobiologist who would later become the wife of Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons). But while the cult series is by far the best-known entry in Bialik’s filmography, her career began much earlier.

As our Spanish sister site Sensacine reports, Bialik started her career with a supporting role in the film Girlfriends with Bette Midler. For the role, she was awarded, among others, Young Artist Award which honors promising young talents in Hollywood. This strong career start was followed by roles in the horror film The Halloween Monster, the TV hit MacGyver and two sitcomswhich met different fates.
While the FOX-produced series Molloy was canceled after only six test episodes, the NBC series Blossom about a teenager growing up with her father and two older brothers, Bialik played her first leading role in it at the age of just 15. The popular sitcom ran for five seasons with 114 episodes before it was canceled by NBC in 1995 due to declining ratings.

After that, Bialik initially turned to other things and devoted herself to acting on the side in order to study at the University of California in Los Angeles and to complete her Doctor in Neuroscience Did she think that this degree would one day lead to the most important role in her acting career?
