The new prime minister was announced yesterday after 62-year-old French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, who has been working in France since May 2022, resigned yesterday. The French press announced that President Emmanuel Macron appointed 34-year-old Minister of Education Gabriel Attal as the new prime minister.
OFFICIAL STATEMENT IS EXPECTED
No official statement has yet been made from the French government on the issue.
Gabriel Attal, known as Macron’s close ally, served as government spokesman during the Covid-19 outbreak.
The government led by Macron and Borne lost its absolute majority in parliament shortly after Macron’s re-election in 2022 and had difficulty passing laws. Rumors about a change in government have increased since Macron promised a new political initiative in December last year.
