Letters were delivered to the women, telling them that the cancer screening showed signs of developing cervical cancer. In the letter, the women were recommended to have a hysterectomy, and 33 women had one.

The error occurred when the hospital noticed an unusual statistical variation in the diagnostic data and began re-examining the samples as a result.
The hospital has told the women about it orally and apologized for what happened.
The women were between 38 and 85 years old.
